Sand Bird, an IIT Madras and Tamil Nadu Govt. funded organization working on smart, eco-friendly and high return on investment product to ease the efforts of low income farmers with smart electric power tillers.
Describe about your innovation
Problem Addressed: Imagine how it would be if we have to spend 1/6th of revenue on renting an agricultural equipment. But, that's the case with farmers. Each farmer in India is spending 1/6th of their revenue on renting a power tiller or tractor from rental agency. This is due to high driver fare, fuel expense and unpredictable maintenance which has to be incurred by rental agency on operating tillers. 50% of Indian farmers are in debt trap and agricultural equipment is one among the main reason (Source: NABARD). Coming from the farming background this affected us deeply and made up to take this as a life time goal to ease the efforts of low income farmers Solution: Now imagine how it could be if we offer a power tiller with 10x lower operational cost compared to a conventional power tiller. That’s what Sand Bird offers, smart electric technologies with which the farmer can sit at one part of farming land and operate the vehicle without the need of a driver. Sand Bird’s Magma comes as an alternate to conventional tillers which offers 3x lower life time expense for rental agency and 25% lower rental cost for low-income farmers.
