Volafresh: A novel intervention to enhance the shelf life of Fruits and Vegetables
Describe about your innovation
VOLAFRESH a patented bioformulation, wipes out /drastically inhibits an array of pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms which primarily drives the decay and deterioration of F&V during storage and transportation. It is a modular, decentralized intervention which enhances shelf life by 2-4 weeks, limits chemical contamination, is recyclable and ensuring food safety. It is an available, accessible and affordable solution. Volafresh is a sterile bioformulation, which is delivered in tea bag type sachets which when activated enhances the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. It gets activated by dipping the sachet in potable water for 15-30 seconds and keeping under ambient conditions for 30-45 min. The sachet can be customized as per weight from 25-100g and in non-activated form has a shelf life of 6 months. The efficacy of the product is dependent on the metabolic activity of the trapped microbe which produces a specific composition of volatile antimicrobials on the proprietary substrate. This solution is customizable as per storage requirements. It is an eco-friendly and recyclable solution. This product enhances the safety of food by wiping off or bringing down the threshold of spoilage and pathogenic microbes inhabiting on it. Volafresh, an innovative disruptive technology, impacts positively the agrarian strata, ecology and food & food-supply industry. It shall promote farmer’s income upwards 30% by reducing losses, avoiding crash-sales and increase fair-price revenue. It supports health, wellbeing and environment by reducing the toxicity caused by sanitizers, fungicides, chemical based coatings. Tremendous reduction (close to 80%) in emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), especially carbon dioxide released during decaying fruits and vegetables. Volafresh aligns well with the UN Sustainability goals 01,02,12 &13 which refers to climate action. Further Volafresh is a recyclable cost-effective solution.
